String size black holes

abstract

When a black hole becomes of order the string scale, we cannot use Einstein's equation any longer to describe it. Previously it was conjectured that such a black hole could become a highly excited string. We re-examine this issue by using a large dimension approximation that leads to a solvable worldsheet theory and allows one to analyze the approach to this transition.
