Nonlinear dynamics of gravity from entanglement in conformal field theories

abstract

I will discuss recent work demonstrating the emergence of nonlinear gravitational equations from the physics of conformal field theories. In this work, we showed that up to second order in the perturbation of a state around the vacuum, the entanglement entropy of ball shaped regions in a conformal field theory can always be represented geometrically (via the Ryu-Takayanagi formula) and that such a geometry must obey Einstein's equations perturbatively to this order.
