Remnants of an Airport

It is not often that you see an airport being stripped down and converted into a residential complex. Austin happens to be one such place where you can see it happen. The erstwhile Robert Mueller Municipal Airport is no longer in operation and the long process of remodelling that area as a fledgling community is underway. While there have been lots of changes (new housing, a big shopping complex, medical facilities) around the airport area, it is curious that the central area that has the old runway, parking lots and control tower etc seems to have evaded any substantial revival. In fact, you can still go there and take a peek at these things.

This shot was taken at the now defunct Mueller Airport. Sign boards and wildflowers are pretty much the only colorful things left standing at this site. I will do a longer post with pictures portraying the decayed site that is still waiting for some revival.

One of the numerous aisles at The Perry Castenada Library. To take this shot,I pointed a zoom lens at a spot that I wanted (well, it ended up being slightly left of that but nvm that) and then set a sufficiently long enough exposure time to let me zoom out while the shutter was open.

Chasing Wild Flowers

Last Spring, motivated largely by the diligent folk who post wildflower sightings here, I went on a day long trip to the Hill Country region to take some pictures of Texas’ own wildflowers. Texas, after all, is the bluebonnet state and has a rich variety of wildflower species that are native to the land(**). More the rain in the months leading up to spring, the merrier it gets. Spring’10 was particularly good. Some of the regulars I met on the road were of the opinion that  ‘10 was one of the best years in a long time. Not that I would have complained if it wasn’t. This was my first time on the road in Hill Country anyway.
