"Hierarchy Problems in String Theory: An Overview of the Large Volume Scenario"

Abstract

I give an overview of the large volume scenario for moduli stabilisation in IIB string theory. I describe how the volume is stabilised exponentially large through the combination of fluxes, alpha' corrections and non-perturbative instanton corrections. I explain how these generate a hierarchically small susy breaking scale and describe the computation and phenomenology of the soft susy breaking terms. I show how the weak, axionic and neutrino mass scales can be related in a phenomenologically appealing fashion and discuss cosmological applications of these models.
