What Happens in a Measurement?

abstract

Measurement in quantum mechanics is treated as a dynamical process, in which the density matrix evolves to the limit prescribed by the Copenhagen interpretation. Conditions are given for this to be the case, and the time-dependent equation for the density matrix is solved under these conditions.
