Gauge/Gravity Duality and the Black Hole Interior

abstract

AdS/CFT and similar dualities give a precise construction of quantum gravity, as seen by an observer at the boundary. It has provided important insights, most notably that black holes evolve according to the rules of ordinary quantum mechanics. However, the firewall argument seems to point to limitations of this construction, and the need for a more complete theory of quantum gravity.
