High Hopes, Early Returns and Future Dreams in the LHC Era
abstract
The current status of the Standard model and the motivation for new physics being discovered in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) era will be introduced. Some early returns from LHC are in and will be briefly reviewed, as will some anomalies that have appeared over the last year at the TeVatron that challenge the Standard Model and may be the early signs of its breakdown in the LHC era. One hope for tying LHC physics to precision Cosmology over the longer term that has been advanced recently is the Higgs-Inflation proposal. We will discuss the challenges that this proposal faces when it is considered an Effective Field Theory.
